Alabama Association for Play Therapy (AAPT) presents:
Family Play Therapy to Strengthen Family Attachments
Eliana Gil, Ph.D., ATR, Registered Play Therapy- Supervisor
WHEN: 8:30 AM- 4:00 PM CST Friday, June 15, 2018
WHERE: St. Vincent’s Bruno Conference Center- 810 St. Vincent’s Dr., Birmingham, AL 35205
This workshop will illustrate how an integrated approach which values play therapy and a systemic context, creates ample opportunities for the establishment or strengthening of attachment. Attachment-based programs, by definition, must include dyadic work and must invite family members to connect emotionally in novel ways that elicit renewed interest and energy. So often, families who seek counseling have feelings of depression, sadness, frustration, and pain. Family play therapists are in the unique position to introduce and model connectivity. In this workshop, the presenter will illustrate how playfulness, physical movement, and doing the unexpected can engage and motivate family members to see each other with new lenses. A variety of evidence-based and practice-informed dyadic models will be discussed and participants will have opportunities for experiential learning.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- List two attachment-based programs that prioritize attachment opportunities for play therapists
- List two benefits of attachment-based play therapy programs for children
- Define attachment and list two ways that play therapy promotes attachment
- List two parent-child activities that utilize play therapy principles
- List two art and play therapy activities that elicit family cohesion thus increasing attachment
- Define an integrated play therapy program that views attachment as central
