Be on the look out for a regional workshop in Montgomery focusing on ethics.  We are working to offer training that will meet the LPC requirement of six contact hours on ethics for license renewal.  We are currently finalizing this workshop.

Interested In Sharing Office Space?

We have been asked to pass along an opportunity to share office space in the Birmingham area.  It is a furnished office conveniently located near St. Vincent’s Hospital.  Office space includes a furnished play therapy room and an adult office.  Rent is $200/month.  Please contact Rachel Copeland directly at 936-5111 or rccounseling@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Scholarships Available for 26th National Symposium on Child Abuse

Each year the National Children’s Advocacy Center in Huntsville Alabama hosts the National Symposium on Child Abuse.  Applications are currently being accepted for scholarships to this wonderful workshop.  Click here to complete the scholarship application.  The deadline for application is October 16, 2009.

You can find out more about symposium and sign up for their blog In The Loop and be notified of workshops and information for those working in the area of child abuse.  The Advocacy Center even has online training courses available free of charge. Please pass this along to other colleagues who might be interested.

Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy

Mountain View Hospital’s next professional education seminar will be conducted by Rod Marshall, Past President of AAPT. “Effective Techniques in Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy” will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 — 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Mountain View Hospital Auditorium. Registration Fee: $40.00 (Payable on site).

Guest Speaker: Rod Marshall, Ed.S., LPC, RPT-S, BCPCC- Director of Counseling for the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries. Rod is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and a Board Certified Christian Counselor with a sense of humor that keeps him in frequent demand at conferences and workshops.

Continuing Education Credits: 3.0 contact hours for LPC’s, ALC’s, Social Workers, Psychologists, and Nursing Home Administrators. 3.6 contact hours for Nurses. Because AAPT is not sponsoring this workshop we are not providing play therapy credit through CEUs but it may qualify for credit through APT.
