I recently used The Balloon Bounce with a four year old and his family. I changed it up a little with questions that I felt would facilitate communication about his particular issues. It was very successful and fun for the family. We all laughed a lot but also talked about some very serious things.

I particularly enjoyed the Get To Know You Potato Chip game. It's amazing what kids will tell you early on when Pringles are involved. I have also used this with pretzels as a healthier option. However, I would suggest the big twisty ones because children really like those. It breaks the ice well and rapport is established easily. Its so different than what kids expect in their first therapy session or within the first few weeks. If you haven't tried it you will be amazed at how well it works.
