Central Alabama Play Therapy Network (CAPTN)

As play therapists we sometimes feel isolated from our peers.  That’s how we felt in Montgomery so Lisa Elliott, Sharon McGee and I decided to organize a Networking Group.  To accommodate schedules and make attendance possible we decide to meet on the 3rd Friday, every other month, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Our goal is to get to know fellow play therapists as well as other therapists interested in play therapy, share ideas, experiences and new techniques, and to also earn play therapy contact hours.

Our first meeting occurred on Friday September 21, 2007.  Thus far we’ve had three meetings on the following topics:

  • Play Therapy Recipe Exchange (each shared an activity or intervention used in play therapy)
  • Referral Sources for Play Therapists (a speaker introduced a new program for family members offered by her agency)
  • Open Forum for Play Therapy Peer Supervision (each presented a troublesome case and received other’s input)

We look forward to getting together and sharing to validate our work and learn more to enable us in helping children.  It is a great way to stay connected to play therapists in your area and receive consultation and support.  We recommend you consider organizing a Networking Group in your area to collaborate with other play therapists.

If you are interested in joining the Central Alabama Play Therapy Network please contact me at 334-396-9323 or by email at sharbellal@gmail.com.

It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them. — Leo F. Buscaglia
