AAPT member Sharon Bell was recently consulted for an article in the Montgomery Advertiser.
She is a play therapist but also a Marriage and Family Therapist. Working to help families become and stay strong helps the parents and the children. The article also references the Family Guidance Center in Montgomery which works to create stronger families – the center employees several AAPT members.
Here is an excerpt from the article:
She (Bell) strongly recommends pre-marital therapy and urges couples to leave no stone unturned. In such sessions, they discuss time together, finances, religion, sex and other topics related to marriage as well as how to work toward a successful union.
Please take a moment to read the entire article entitled, “Groups Strive to Help Married Couples Preserve Their Unions“.
Please remember that April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. This is an annual event bringing attention to the issue of child abuse and focusing on prevention. Since 1989, the Blue Ribbon Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse has been highlighted in April. It was started by a grandmother in Virginia who lost her grandson to child abuse. It started with this one grandmother tying a simple blue ribbon to the antenna of her car in remembrance of him and a reminder to others.
In honor of the precious children who have lost their lives as a result of abuse, children who may be saved by awareness, those taking action to prevent abuse, and out of appreciation for those who step in to help children who have been victimized, we encourage you to wear a blue ribbon during this month.
We send this blue ribbon as a small thank you for helping children heal from abuse.
Our next workshop will feature Liana Lowenstein — the topic is “Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children and Children of Divorce”. Register online now!
